- Had you ever used a blog before attending RTF 305? IF SO, WHAT WAS ITS FOCUS?Yes, I maintained a blog for a little while on myspace in middle school about just random things in my life. Later I wrote a blog in high school in which I reviewed albums for indie rock bands. In it, I would make best-of lists, track reviews, that kind of thing. I currently do one on Facebook pertaining to the music I play every week on my radio show on the UT college radio show.
- What were the positive aspects of using the blogs in the course? It was a very involved process, and it was a useful tool in reviewing the concept learned in lecture over the week. Maintaining the weekly blog made it so that I was constantly reviewing the material we learned, and felt more prepared for the test because of it.
- What difficulties did you encounter in using the blogs? (both technical and conceptual)It was a bit hard to format at first, but technically it was pretty simple. Conceptually, some of the topics were very broad and hard to pinpoint in a simple written assignment. I never knew whether I was delving deep enough into the material. Some of the questions could have gotten a multiple page answer.
- If you had difficulties in using the blog, how were you able to overcome the difficulties you encountered?I just kinda went with whatever. The blogs were pretty vague and the grading system was as well. I mainly just overdid my blogs to overcome the vagueness, which was time consuming and sort of annoying. But thats about all I could do.
- What types of blog prompts were more or less interesting or difficult? (provide an example and rationale)The blog prompts that had a creative edge to it were the best, such as the ones in which we took a film of our choice and analyzed it in relation to what we had been learning. I like the blogs that had some amount of creativity, not just broad and boring explanations of concepts.
- Would you recommend using a blog in future course, either in RTF 305 and other undergraduate courses at UT-Austin? (explain why..)I think it's a useful writing tool. But keep in mind that each blog (at least for me) was like writing a one to two page paper, (double-spaced) and thus added a bit to my workload as a whole, more than most people would think when they just think about the rtf blog.
- What would you suggest to change or improve the blogging experience in the future?More than one blog prompt per week. More creativity with the prompts.
Yes, you can use this blog for research of whatever.
